Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) is a clinical approach to help individuals with substance use disorders, particularly opioid use disorder (OUD), manage their addiction and reduce the potential for relapse. MAT combines the use of FDA-approved medications with counseling, therapy, and other support services to address both the physical and psychological aspects of addiction. MAT is considered an evidence-based treatment and is often most effective when combined with a comprehensive, individualized treatment plan.
Mental health therapy, also known as psychotherapy or counseling, is a treatment designed to help individuals manage, understand, and overcome emotional, psychological, or behavioral issues. Therapy provides a supportive space where individuals can talk about their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors with a trained professional. The goal of mental health therapy is to help individuals cope with stress, improve emotional regulation, develop healthier thinking patterns, and address issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, relationship problems, and other mental health challenges. It can also be used for personal growth, increasing self-awareness, and improving overall well-being. Mental health therapy is typically tailored to meet the specific needs of each individual, and the therapeutic process can be short-term or long-term, depending on the person’s goals and the nature of the issue being addressed.
